Kiri Davis: A Girl Like Me

It's astonishing how intuitive and wise these young girls are, and to see how ones so young read into the plight of African American women and African Americans in general is quite enlightnening. The results of the recreation of the famous doll experiment done by Dr. Kenneth Clark in the 1940s makes me look upon my peers in a different light. I have often found myself guilty of "looking down" on a lot of African American women and men my age for so willfully playing into so many of the stereotypes that have been laid before us. For being that ignorant, loud-mouthed girl on the bus. And while ignorance must never be excused or made tolerant, I look at this experiment and wonder, when you are taught from such a young age that what you are and your skin color is simply "bad", how are we expected to move past that?

Irish Wailer

Damien Rice's music got me through some tough shit in my life. But beside being on my list of "fucked-up emotions" go-to music, he is one of my favorite(if not my favorite) artists. The following vids are live performances of songs off of one of my favorite albums ever, "O". Enjoy....

A Tale of Seis Palabras...

On sixwordstories.net, anyone can feel free to submit any story of any genre........the twist being one has to tell their tale with only six words. It's an age-old exercise for writers, to get the creative juices flowing. Challenging yourself to create a narrative, a mystery, a bad dream, being as vague as you like or as descriptive as it is possible to be using six words. Sound easy? I beg to differ. When you think about it, most of us use more than six words to say the most mundane of things such as, "Honey, what do you want for dinner?" or "Occam's razor states that all things being equal, the simplest solution is most likely the correct one.".....Ok, so perhaps not so much the latter phrase, but I think you get my point.

What's different about this is being able to read all of the interesting "tales' of others.

My first submission:
"Finished. Record time. Talk is cheap."

Take of it what you will.
Don't forget to visit to visit sixwordstories.net. Take four seconds, or two hours to get a little inspiration. Or perhaps provide a little of your own....

The Roaring Black.....Illustrated

I discovered this captivating lil' drawing on www.Treaberry.com. It definitely has tattoo potential. I am certain it is a fashion illustration of some sort, but who drew it and of its origin I have no knowledge. Perhaps someone, maybe even Trea,(??!!) can throw some light on my shade....

Within the week of the start of his prison sentence, Malik El Djebena is told he must take the life of another man, or forfeit his own. The Power of the XX

Stumbled across this....breathe of fresh air while visiting ped-es-tal. It is refreshing in a way one could only understand if you set aside 20min right now to be enlightened. If you don't, you run the risk of never waking up "your inner girl". Just watch it....

Hear My Call

No, I am not a religious person....at all. And one doesn't need to be to fall head-over-heels in love with this song. It had me truly wishing that if there were a God, he would hear her call....

"La Moda Animada"

Imagine Karl Lagerfeld drenched in black storming a red carpet as side-liners gawk in amazement...imagine
Jean Paul Gaultier leisurely browsing through designs on his amazing balcony in Paris.....now imagine Buzz Lightyear and Lilo & Stich being several of those "side-liners"....imagine JPG as Donald Duck in a bad wig, Mickey Mouse, his assistant. That is exactly what Ulirich Schroder did for Elle Spain. Enjoy.......

No No No.....

Dawn Penn- "You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)"

Mother.....fudgers?!

I've been hearing about this video for a while, and I'm really not sure whether I should be appalled or what. It's like a little disturbing. Shit's kinda funny though. One interesting mesh of both(funny and disturbing) is when the pint-sized Michelle Pfeiffer impersonator says "You deal coke and you kill people, that's wooonderful Tony!".
